If former Transport Minister Jesmond Muliett promised the hearse owners that they would continue retaining a monopoly and now Austin Gatt has gone against his former colleague’s word, this is bad for the credibility of the government. Politicians should stop promising things they cannot maintain!
But the Public Transport Association’s reaction is unacceptable. Blocking Malta and holding everyone at ransom is not on. Monopolies are no longer on, either!
The public transport system in Malta needs to be modernized, made more frequent, more routes introduced, with longer hours. And we have to change our fleet of buses into clean buses running on methane and/or electricity.
Striking against helpless victims is no solution.
