The Times of Malta has reported that “Malta’s list of preferred candidates for the appointment of a judge in the European Court has been refused for the second time because it does not include a woman, the Labour Party said”.
If this is so, then it is a real shame that our country must pay the price of the government’s stubborness.
It is the year 2009. Gender parity is a hallmark of the European spirt. Why is the Malta government not including one female nominee in the list of three if this is a European requirement?
The message given to Europe on this occasion is that Malta is still locked up in the Middle Ages on this issue.
